The I heart NY logo was created in 1977 by Milton Glaser for an ad campaign created by advertising agency Wells Rich Greene. The marketing campaign was sought by then-Deputy Commissioner William S. Doyle to increase tourism in the state of New York. The campaign was a wild success. The original sketch of the logo is permanently on display at the MOMA.

The logo has become iconic in pop-culture and has been imitated in many forms around the world.

Chicago is the most populated city in the state of Illinois. Located in the Midwest, Chicago is known for its music scene, jazz in particular, and its deep-dish pizza. Nicknames for Chicago are Windy City, Chi-Town, and Second City. The last indigenous people to inhabit the area were the Potawatomi. In 1833 the treaty of Chicago was created and the Potawatomi were forced out of their lands. Jean Baptiste Point du Sable is considered the founder of Chicago and named it after the French word Chicagou which refers to the amount of garlic that grows in the forests of the region. Chicago is the third most populated city in the United States and diverse within its population.
