The Mooney Suzuki is an American band, now on hiatus, but was active in the late 1990s and 2000s. The band was first formed in 1996 and its first songs were released in 1998. The band’s name comes from the names of members of the German rock band, Can: Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki.
The band’s first album, People Get Ready, was released in 2000. Although the band broke up for a short period they reunited and did shows with such bands as The White Stripes and the Strokes. The Mooney Suzuki also had the opportunity to not only perform on Late Night with Conan O’Brien but also write music for the movie School of Rock, starring Jack Black. The band has since made appearances in movies such as Fun with Dick and Jane and Tropic Thunder. The band is currently on hiatus and their last album, Have Mercy, was released in 2007.
