The National Museum of African American History & Culture was established by Congress in 2003 and is dedicated solely to exploring African American history and culture. The museum—built by designer David Adjaye and architect Philip Freelon—opened to the public in 2016 and is located on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Approximately two million visitors each year visit the museum.
