In 1993, Shoney’s restaurant, Coca-Cola and Opryland theme park sponsored a sweepstakes which awarded the winner an all-expense paid trip to Opryland and an opportunity to have dinner with country music star, Randy Travis. Other prizes included acoustic guitars autographed by Travis, denim jackets and cassettes.

Randy Travis became a successful songwriter and performer in the 1980s, with 16 number one hits on the country music charts. A high school drop-out who had several run-ins with the law in his youth, Travis was rejected by every major record label in Nashville at the beginning of his career. Travis suffered a massive stroke in 2013 which greatly affected his speech. In 2016 he amazed the audience when he performed a rendition of Amazing Grace at his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
