This was a campaign button for the Republican Candidate George Romney's US presidential campaign in 1968. George Wilcken Romney (1907-1995) was a chairman and president of American Motors Corporation and the 43rd Governor of Michigan. Romney campaigned on fiscal responsibility without raising tax and supported social welfare, however he was ambiguous on international policies and he was accused of being a flip-flop over issues related to the Vietnam War. He was once a favored candidate until he dropped a comment about his initial support for the war was a result of "brainwashing" by military officials and changed his to position to oppose the war. Romney's campaign also dealt with concerns about his eligibility to hold the office of President due to the fact that he was born in Mexico. Both his parents had U.S. citizenship and fled Mexico to the U.S. in 1912 during the Mexican Revolution.

His son Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, also ran for president in both 2008 and 2012, and was the Republican Party's nominee in the 2012 election. George Romney's wife, Lenore Romney, was nominated by Republican Party for the U.S. senate from Michigan in 1970.
