The phrase “Dingbat for President” comes from a 1972 advertising campaign for that year’s number one watched sitcom, All in the Family. The show centered around a blue collar family and is credited for developing a new type of realistic satire based on actual and controversial life events. The nickname “Dingbat” was given to the sweet yet somewhat naive character of Edith Bunker by her husband, Archie.
