In 1985 Chicago celebrated its sixteenth annual Pride Parade. The parade, which was first held in 1970, takes place on the last Sunday in the month of June, and is the high point of the Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. Pride Parades like these are believed to be partially responsible for the greater acceptance and support of the LGBT community. In 1985 the parade was attended by 35,000 spectators, while in 2014 the parade drew in over one million spectators.
