Additional Information

The Empire State Building was completed in early 1931. It stood as the world’s tallest building for 40 years until the completion of the North World Trade Center Tower in 1970. The roof of the Empire State Building is 1,250 feet, and it is 1,454 feet to the top of the antennae. The building, designed by William F. Lamb, is designed in the art deco style and is thought to be an American icon. Unfortunately, the building opened just as the Depression hit, leaving much of the building unrented. Furthermore, the building was several blocks from public transportation making it less desirable for business. Although there was a lack of renters, the observation deck brought in a lot of revenue. The interior and exterior observation decks are located on the 86th floor. The observation deck provides a 360 degree view of the city and has been used for classic cinematic moments, including An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle
