Additional Information Musician was an American popular music magazine that ran from 1976 to 1999. It was particularly popular among professionals in the industry for its approach to article writing, which was geared more towards musicians themselves than it was towards fans. In particular, Lester Bangs, celebrated rock critic, began writing at Musician before going on to work for Rolling Stone and Creem later in his career. By 1981, Musician became too expensive to run as an independent publication and was sold to Billboard. It was bought back a few years later and eventually folded in 1999. Musician is remembered today for the high caliber of its articles and the in-depth look they provided into the musical creative process.
