James “Mac” Warren, a member of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), ran for President of the United States in 1988. His running mate was Kathleen Mickells a coal miner and oil refinery worker from Nebraska who herself also was an avid member of the SWP. Warren garnered slightly over 15,000 votes in 1988 and in another attempt in 1992 was more successful with around 23,000 votes. The Socialist Workers Party was founded in 1938 and has been a small but active force in the U.S. political landscape with participation by candidates in every Presidential election since 1948.
