Additional Information

Sister Jean, BVM (née Jean Dolores Schmidt) is a chaplain for the men’s basketball team at Loyola University.  Sister Jean has become an institution at the university’s basketball games and was celebrated with cake, songs, buttons, tee shirts and more at her 100th birthday party attended by hundreds of students, staff and community members in August 2019. In honor of “Chicago’s basketball-loving nun,” as she’s become known, the university matched an alumni donation of $250,000 in her honor to be used as an endowment fund for student athletic excellence. Even Legoland Discovery Center Chicago got in on the celebration, building a miniature likeness of the sister out of Legos.
