The teamsters help by their ability to engage in collective bargaining and other union activities. The overarching International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded in 1903 in Chicago. The union was very aggressive concerning higher wages and shorter hours. The teamster unions were also known for being corrupted bribe takers that participated in organized crime.
