The Marshall Field and Company department store, also known as Marshall Field’s operated in Chicago from 1881 until 2005 when it was acquired by Macy’s. Marshall Field became the wealthiest man in Chicago by catering to women’s fashion with upscale clothing. His motto was “Give the lady what she wants” which he attempted to live up to by providing modern conveniences such as electric lights and a nursery, as well as hiring women in the sales department. White and green were the company’s signature colors.
