Additional Information | Abraham Lincoln (1809-1965) was the 16th President of the United States. His presidency lasted from March 1861 until he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in Washington, D.C. in April 1865. This "pre-button" was produced in support of Lincoln's 1864 presidential campaign on the Republican ticket against Democrat George B. McClellan of New Jersey. Lincoln was re-elected in a landslide victory through the Electoral College. He was the first president to be re-elected since Andrew Jackson in 1832 and began his second term on March 4, 1865. |
