| Additional Information | Candyman is an American horror film released in 1992. The film follows Helen Lyle, a graduate student in Chicago, who accidentally summons the Candyman while investigating local urban legends. The titular character is the ghost of a black man lynched for having an affair with a white woman. The film was praised upon its release for its surprisingly complex themes of racial divides in Chicago, in particular its depiction of Cabrini Green, a majority black housing complex. The film was popular enough to receive two standalone sequels, and a "spiritual sequel" directed by Jordan Peele released in 2021. |
