Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a member of the Big Ten conference. Called the Boilermakers in homage to their hands on history, the Purdue basketball team holds the record for most Big Ten Championships, with 22. This button is from the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) which is held annually, the finals at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. An invitation-only tournament, it was at one point the most prestigious college basketball tournament, though int recent years it has been overshadowed by the NCAA March Madness. In 1982 the Boilermakers made it all the way to the finals, losing to Bradley University 67-58.
