This button is a reference to the Marshall Field and Company department store, also known as Marshall Field’s, that was a part of Chicago from 1881 until 2005 when it was acquired by Macy’s. Marshall Field became the richest man in Chicago by catering to women’s fashion with upscale clothing. His motto was “Give the lady what she wants” which he lived up to by providing the most modern conveniences, such as electric lights and a nursery, as well as hiring women in the sales department. The white and green were the company’s signature colors.
