Black and white illustration of a wolf with the words "Willie Wolf" in black letters underneath illustrations.
The name Willie Wolf first appeared in in reference to William “Willie” Wolf who played baseball for the New York Giants minor league in the 1920s. Willie Wolf appeared again in a 1944 Canadian Air Force bomber nose art illustration of a wolf carrying ammunition. The aircraft completed 58 missions including an air raid on France and was decommissioned in 1945. The name Willie Wolf appears several more times in the years leading up to the 21st century; however, they are not historically equivalent.
