Republic Airways Holdings was founded in 1973 as Chautauqua Airlines. Initially operating only two 15-passenger aircraft, the company steadily added to their fleet and partnered with other regional airlines. Growth continued until February 2016 when Republic filed for bankruptcy, forcing the retiring of significant portions of their fleet. Despite this step, Republic still currently owns the worlds largest fleet of Embraer 170 and Embraer 175 aircraft, both of which hold approximately 70 passengers. As per the company's contract agreements, these fleets operate on behalf of Delta Connection, United Express, and American Eagle regional airlines.
