Additional Information | President Bill Clinton, along with Vice President Al Gore, successfully ran for re-election in 1996 against Republican opponent Bob Dole and Reform Party candidate Ross Perot. The campaign was difficult, as the Democratic party had recently lost control of both the House and the Senate in the 1994 mid-term elections. However, Clinton was ultimately successful and became the first Democratic candidate to be re-elected to a second term after serving a full first term since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. |
