Additional Information | Former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate California Senator Kamala Harris ran during the 2020 election against incumbent candidates President Donald J.Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence. The election itself was historic as it took place during the worldwide pandemic, COVID-19, and national, racial unrest. As a result, voter turnout, through early voting, in-person voting, and mail-in voting, was at a record high. Due to the increased voter turnout, many states' projections were still undetermined by the media for over a week after the election. On November 7, 2020, news networks called the election in favor of Biden. In the end, both candidates received the most votes of any two presidential candidates in US history. Biden’s running mate also made history as becoming the first woman elected to the office of Vice-President, the first woman of color, and the first Asian-American woman to hold the office. |
