Additional Information | The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team in Buffalo, New York. The team was founded in 1970 and plays in the Eastern Conference. This logo is the original logo for the team. Wanting so keep with the Buffalo theme of bison but not wanting to copy the other teams in Buffalo (Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Braves, and the defunct Buffalo Bison hockey team) they opted for the Buffalo Sabres, using the Canadian spelling, because according to Seymoure Knox III, one of the first owners, "a sabre, a weapon carried by a leader, could be used effectively on both offense and defense". This style of logo was used from founding until 1996 when it was replaced by an image of just a buffalo head. In 2010 the team changed their logo back to the vintage, adopting deeper blue and gold colours. |
