Cabbage Patch Kids is a line of soft sculpture dolls created by 21 year old art student Xavier Roberts in 1978. The dolls were inspired by the work of Martha Nelson Thomas but went on to become one of the biggest toy fads on the 1980s. The brand was originally called Little People but was changed to Cabbage Patch Kids in the early 1980s. The original dolls each came with a birth certificate or adoption papers. The Cabbage Patch Kids line has since been owned by Coleco, Hasbro, Mattel, Toys "R" Us, Play Along Toys, Jakks Pacific, and Wicked Cool Toys.
