Additional Information | Fromage is a French word that when translated into English simply means cheese. The French take their fromage very seriously. The Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union established specific cheese, many which are French, included in a protected designation of origin (PDO). The French system to classify geographical origin is limited to those cheeses that were considered traditional specialties to specific regions of France and is called "appellation d'origine controlee (AOC)." Fifty-six French cheeses are protected under the AOC which is specific to France. |
