Additional Information | Doctor Who, a television show produced by the BBC, premiered in 1963 and is the longest running science-fiction show on television. The show revolves around a character called the Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, who travels through time and space—often with one or multiple companions. The Doctor has the power to regenerate, a characteristic first introduced when William Hartnell, the actor who played the first Doctor, became too ill to continue on the show. As of 2015, the Doctor has been played by twelve different actors. The logo on this button, known commonly as the “Diamond Logo”, was featured in the credits of the show from 1973 to 1980 and is associated with the fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker. The "Diamond Logo" experienced a revival in the 1980s and 1990s, when it was used on the covers of the VHS releases of the show, as well as on books and other merchandise. |
