Additional Information | XX or Dos Equis (Spanish for two Xs) is a lager. The beer was originally named Siglo XX (20th Century). The first brew was in 1897 by Wilhelm Hasse who was a German born Mexican immigrant. Hasse founded the brewing company Moctezuma Brewery in Veracruz in 1890. Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for 5th of May. It is an annual celebration of the Mexican Army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 against the French Empire. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the USA and considered part of Mexican-American culture. The holiday became popular in the 1980s with beer and wine advertisements. 1983 was the year Dos Equis first imported into the USA. |
