Additional Information | MOVE is a Philadelphia-based self-proclaimed black liberation group founded by John Africa in 1972. The group is still active and engages in public demonstrations against racism, police brutality, and other issues. In the past the group has been involved in a couple major incidents. In 1978, there was a standoff that resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to several other people. Because of this event, the nine members of the group received life sentences. ‘Free the MOVE 9’ represents the point of view that those who were involved and have been in prison since August 8, 1978, should be freed. |
