Benji, a film released in 1974, follows the story of a stray dog who saves two kidnapped children. Writer and director Joe Camp formed his own production company to distribute the film after Hollywood studios turned it down. Ultimately deemed a critical and commercial success, Benji grossed $45 million on a $500,000 budget. "I Feel Love," the film's theme song, which was performed by country singer Charlie Rich, also won a Golden Globe Award and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
