Additional Information | "I Like Ike" is one of the most famous American presidential campaign slogans of all time. Eisenhower (or, Ike, as was his childhood nickname), a five-star general in World War II, was courted by both Democrats and Republicans alike to be their candidate in the 1952 presidential campaign. Republicans, in their push to woo Eisenhower, began using the slogan "I Like Ike" even before he agreed to be their nominee! Once Eisenhower was officially the Republican candidate, the slogan became nearly ubiquitous. There was even an advertisement produced by Disney with a jingle that incorporated the slogan. Eisenhower defeated incumbent president Adlai Stevenson to become the 34th president of the United States. His platform was known for expanding social security, creating the interstate Highway system, and signing the Civil Rights Act into law. |
