Additional Information | The Video King was a chain of consumer electronics stores. The chain operated 19 stores in the Chicago area in the 1980s and claimed to be the area’s largest retailer of videocassette recorders. At the time, Video King was owned by Rozel Industries, Inc. Formed in 1963. The company sold pool tables and accessories using the name Minnesota Fats Billiard & Leisure Centers. In 1980, the Minnesota Fats stores were converted to Videl King outlets. In 1985, Video King filed for bankruptcy, blaming its problems on weak sales of home computers and video games. The company was sold to Record Town Inc., a record store chain in Albany, New York, owned by Transworld Music Corp. However, the new owners could not keep the stores open in Chicago, and they closed in 1987. |
