Additional Information

Sigmund Freud, born in Frieberg, Moravia in 1856, was a medical doctor, psychologist, neurologist, and extremely influential thinker of the early twentieth century. Considered the father of psychoanalysis, Freud articulated and refined a radically new therapeutic and conceptual framework for the understanding of human psychological development and experience, as well as how to go about treating mental illnesses. His theories of the unconscious, repression, and infantile sexuality have been the subject of much debate and controversy, both during his lifetime and after, but their influence on modern-day therapeutic practice and understanding of the psychology of the human mind is irrefutable.
