Eisenhower during his first campaign for president on the Republican ticket in 1952. Richard Nixon was his running mate as vice-president. Eisenhower soundly defeated Adlai Stevenson, a Democrat from Illinois, in the 1952 election to become the 34th President of the USA. He was reelected in 1956 and began his second term the following year. |
