Additional Information | Founded by brothers Robert and Ronald Bell in Jersey City, New Jersey during the 1960s, Kool and the Gang was an iconic funk band that redefined the sound of jazz and r&b. Originally made up of the Bell brothers and their childhood friends, the name of the band was a direct reflection of that in which Kool represented Robert's nickname and the Gang represented the remainder of the band. Their first debut album, "Kool and the Gang" was released in 1969 under the De-Lite Records. On this self-titled album, three singles topped the Billboard charts for both pop and r&b. Some of their career hits include "Jungle Boogie," "Hollywood Swinging," and "Get Down On It." |
