Additional Information | Russell W. Peterson served as the Governor of Delaware from 1969-1972, defeating incumbent Governor Charles L. Terry, Jr. in the 1968 gubernatorial election. Peterson was a notable environmentalist and the first person to appoint a person of color to the Board of Trustees at the University of Delaware. He also insisted on the hiring of Black Americans in the Delaware State Police department. |
