James Caleb Boggs—known commonly as Cale—was a Republican politician from Delaware. In 1946, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and starting in 1952 served two terms as the Governor of Delaware. Boggs, a liberal Republican, was elected to the United States Senate in 1960 and voted in favor of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968, the 24th Amendment to the U.S., and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In 1972, he lost his sentate seat to Democrat and future President of the United States, Joe Biden.
