Additional Information | Shedd Aquarium is a key cultural landmark of Chicago. Opened in 1930, the Shedd now holds 32,000 aquatic creatures. One of its most popular attractions is the beluga whale, which visitors have the opportunity to swim with during their famous Beluga Encounter. The institution is also deeply involved in conservation efforts, partnering with Georgia Aquarium to fund the protection of the dwindling beluga populations in Alaska. |
