Additional Information | The Chicago Sting was a soccer team from 1974 to 1988. The Sting was named after the movie of the same name, which was set in Chicago during the 1930s. The Sting was in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1975 to 1984, and the Major Indoor Soccer League from 1984-1988. Soccer fans supported the Sting through their NASL championship wins in 1981 and 1984, only one of two teams to win the championship twice (the other was the New York Cosmos). However, by the late 1980s, the Sting faced a string of losses and financial troubles, and the team stopped playing by the summer of 1988. They have never played another game, though Sting fans still have hope. |
