Created by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Film Studio’s prop department, it was considered a groundbreaking design at the cost of $125,000. Robby the Robot became a science fiction icon. He appeared in numerous Science Fiction movies and TV shows, including Lost in Space, The Twilight Zone, and The Big Bang Theory. Multiple copies of Robby the Robot were created due to his popularity and wear and tear on the original. In 2017, the original Robby the Robot was the most expensive film prop sold at auction for $5,375,000.
