Additional Information Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma became a subsidiary of Heineken International in 2010 and is now named Heineken Mexico. The brewery began in 1890 and now has 7 plants, 16 brands, and 21 products. In 1890, a sample brew was shared with Spanish Kings and their reply was a blank card but with a royal seal that approved of the beer. This is how Carta Blanca received its name. Cerveceria Tecate (Tecate Brewery) was founded in 1944 by Alberto Aldrete in Tecate, Mexico. In 1947, Tecate beer began to import to the USA and Asia. Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma purchased the brewery in the 1950s. Tecate was the first "easy open" can in Mexico (no bottle opener required) in 1964. Tecate was also the first light beer to be sold in Mexico in 1994. Now, Tecate is now well known throughout Mexico and the USA. Bohemia is named after the Czech region. The original is a pale pilsner and there is now a dark beer called Bohemia Obscura. In 2011, a craft-style wheat beer was created called "Bohemia Weizen" a German Kristallweizen. The 13 American colonies sought independence from the British which caused the Revolutionary War from 1775-1783. US Independence day celebrates the American colonies' independence from Britain's Monarchy under the rule of King George the III. July 4th, 1776 is the date when the colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Mexican Independence Day is Sept 16 to celebrate the country's independence from Spain in 1810. The war between Mexico and Spain began when a priest from Delores named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the church bell. He then delivered a speech called Grito de Delores (Cry of Delores) asking for the independence of Mexico from Spain. The war lasted ten years.
