Additional Information

The Festival of Life in Chicago was first established at the 1968 Democratic National Convention when the newly formed Youth International Party (Yippies) gathered tens of thousands of people to protest the Vietnam War. The Yippies were founded by Abbie and Anita Hoffman, Jerry Rybin, Nancy Kurshan, and Paul Krassner, who wanted to put on a ‘counter-festival’ to the DNC. This button was worn by Yippies to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the festival.
