Annie premiered as a musical on Broadway in 1977, and the production won 7 Tony Awards during its initial run. The musical is about an orphan (Annie) that gets adopted by a wealthy man. The musical was originally based on a comic strip that was published in the New York Daily News during the 1920s called Little Orphan Annie. There has been two Broadway revivals of the play, the most recent one in 2012.
