Additional Information | The Birthday Party was a post-punk musical group formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1978 by Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Rowland S. Harvey and Tracy Pew and was active until 1983. The band was originally formed under the name The Boys Next Door, and enjoyed moderate success in Australia. In 1980, the band relocated to England and changed their name to The Birthday Party. The band relocated again to West Berlin in 1982 before disbanding shortly thereafter due to inner-band conflict. The Birthday Party is known for its dark lyrics and abrasive music. Their sound has been credited as being influential on the emerging gothic rock scene of the early 1980s. After the breakup of The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and Mick Harvey went on to form the widely acclaimed band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. |
