Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was released in 1983 as the final film in the original trilogy. The movie sees the series protagonist, Luke Skywalker, complete his quest of becoming a true Jedi Knight of the force. Realizing that Darth Vader is actually his father, former Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker, Luke is forced to confront his father while ending the threat of the evil Empire once and for all. The Star Wars franchise has gone on to become one of the most critically and financially successful series in film history. Since the original trilogy's release, the franchise has expanded to television, books, and toys. Continuing to have a significant impact on modern popular culture, the series continues to expand with new movies still being released.
