Additional Information | This button is from the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California on May, 27th 1987. The anniversary celebration was attended by an estimated 250,000 people who congregated on the bridge deck, causing the bridge arch to flatten under the weight. As a precaution, engineers before the event had made calculations to determine just how many people the bridge could support during the celebration. With these calculations in mind, an additional estimated 500,000 people who gathered on the approaches to the bridge were denied access due to fears of collapse. |
