Golden Gate International Exposition was held at Treasure Island in San Francisco from February 18, 1939, through October 29, 1939. Treasure Island is a man made island created for the World's Fair and in celebration of two newly developed bridges; San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. The fair showcased achievements in art, architecture, agriculture, and industry, ultimately attracting 17,000,000 million visitors. The theme of the event was called, “Pageant of the Pacific,” partnering with nations of the Pacific Ocean. The exposition had cultural representations, the 80-foot statue of Pacifica, goddess of the Pacific ocean called, “The Tower of the Sun.” It was considered a monetary failure, in response to losing money drastically during the exposition it was closed early. Due to the unexpected revenue shortfall, it was initially planned to abandon the event altogether, however the Golden Gate International Exposition resumed on May 25, 1940, through September 29, 1940.

Chrysler Motors, formally Chrysler Corporation and currently known as Stellantis North America, was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler. It is one of the three leading competitors in the automotive industry, along with Ford and General Motors. Chrysler Motors was an exhibitor at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, showcasing their automotive advancements as part of the celebration of the Western United States own industrial advancements. Chrysler Motors went on to create and sell affordable automobiles, including the Plymouth brand, and auto parts for decades. In 2009, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy resulting in being managed by Fiat. In 2021, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US once again made another historical change within its company's history by merging with Stellantis North America.
