In 1959, Ford Motor Company acquired the licensing rights to the Peanuts for use in color TV commercials for their cars, including the Ford Falcon. The first Peanuts commercials aired shortly after, marking the first time the characters were animated for television. The Ford-Peanuts agreement ended in 1965, the same year that the first Peanuts television special A Charlie Brown Christmas aired.
