H. Kohnstamm & Co. originally formulated paste colors used to keep color in place as it was worked into food or candy. Its factories produced industry-standard colors, including Brilliant Sky Blue, Brilliant Lemon Yellow, and Brilliant Crimson Red. These dyes were used for blending with glycerin, propylene glycol, dextrose, and sometimes gums. Eventually, the company diversified its products to include flavors, extracts, and essential oils. By 1959, H. Kohnstamm products were widely used in soaps as well as other foods, cosmetics, plastics, and medicines.
