Additional Information | The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a 1982 film adaption of a musical by the same name. The film starred Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, and also featured Noah Beery, Jr., Jim Nabors, Charles Durning, Dom De Luise, Robert Mandan, Lois Nettleton, Theresa Merritt, Barry Corbin, Mary Jo Catlett, and Mary Louise Wilson. Durning was nominated an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Parton was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical). Universal Pictures had difficulty advertising the film because the word "whorehouse" was considered obscene in many parts of the US. The film was renamed The Best Little Cathouse in Texas in some print ads, while television ads were banned in some areas. The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas was the most successful movie-musical of the 1980s. It was Dolly Parton's second movie after 9 to 5 in 1980. |
