Additional Information | There was a great deal of interest in chewing in the early 20th century. British Tycoon, Horace Fletcher, was the man behind this craze. His theory was that a person needed to chew their food at least 40 times before they could swallow it. This was due to the fact that he mistakenly identified the mouth as the place where digestion happens rather than the stomach. Fletcher had many famous followers, such as Thomas Edison, Henry James, Franz Kafka, John D. Rockefeller, who followed his health guidance. |
