“Hurts So Good” is a song by American singer-songwriter John Mellencamp, from his fifth studio album American Fool, which was released under the stage name “John Cougar” in 1982. “Hurts So Good” was a commercial and critical success - climbing to the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning Mellencamp Best Rock Vocal Performance (Male) at the 25th Grammy Awards in 1983. Mellencamp says that he was inspired to write the song after hearing a girl named Tiffany say the phrase “Hurts so good,” in reference to an acupuncture treatment that she had received from Mellencamp’s grandmother.
